Leinster Men’s Trophy team surge past Lucan
Greystones took on Lucan on Sunday afternoon in the Leinster Men’s Trophy (Previously Metropolitan trophy) in what looked like a tough assignment, as we had 4 matches away from home.
Manager Mark Byrne sent out a mix of experience and youth. Despite losing two matches at home, Greystones produced a superb performance away and won three matches and were up in the fourth when the match was called in.
Congratulations to Mark and the team on overcoming a potentially difficult tie by a margin of 4.5 to 2.5.
The results were as follows:
Home:
- Keith McDonnell won 5&4
- Henry Gilbert lost 2 down
- Ruadhan Murray lost 2 down
Away
- Fergal Duffy won 2 up
- Colm Mulcahy won 3&1
- Eddie Davis 2 up through 16
- Paul Keane won 4&3
Super Seniors to take on Killeen
Joe O’Brien and Pat O’Dowd will send our Super Seniors team out to face Killeen Golf Club on Monday afternoon at 1.50pm with all 5 matches to take place in Greystones.
This will be a scotch foursomes match(60% of the high man and 40% of the low man to count towards handicap). The away team will also get a courtesy shot in each tie.
All support welcome and as usual live updated will be available on our live scoring app.
Darcy Cup Glory for Greystones
After overcoming Old Conna this morning our Darcy Cup team were out again this afternoon to take on Bray Golf Club in the final. Having being pipped in the final last year there was some unfinished business for Karl Holmes and his squad. Management made a couple of changes from the semi-final line with Darren McCormack and Jamie Anderson coming in for Toby Murphy and Will O’Riordan. In the end it was a comfortable win by 4 to 1 for the team. The scores were as follows:
Alan Condren won 4&2
David Byrne won 6&5
Dylan Holmes was 1 down through 16
Adam Packman/Darren McCormack were 1 up through 15
Shane O’Connor/Jamie Anderson won 6&4
So it’s been a great start to the year with a pennant secured already. However there will be no resting on their laurels for the squad as they will now be targeting the Senior Cup and Barton Shield.

Well done to all of our prize winners in our third and final major of 2023, President Marguerite’s Prize for the Juniors, with Emma Haugh taking home the girls prize with a great score of 34pts and John Byrne winning the boys prize with an outstanding score of 40pts (and just pipping Tom Murphy on the back 9). Will O’Riordan won the gross with a great level par round of 69.
A massive thank you to our President, Marguerite, for her support of the Junior section in GGC and her very generous prizes today. We had a record 61 boys and girls playing in a Junior major and Marguerite was on the first tee to see every group off. It was great to see so many parents at the prize giving, with the results again expertly called by our Junior Girls Captain, Isabella, and our Junior Boys Captain, Jamie.
A big thank you to Ali, Liz and the catering team for feeding everybody, and to Paul and Alan behind the bar.
And to Anto, Martin, Sinead and John for getting all of the boys and girls off on time and marking the cards. As always, we can only run successful competitons with the help of parents!
