Congratulations to Paul Dunne
Huge congratulations to Paul and his team on an incredible performance over the past week following his first win on the European Tour. The club was a hive of activity all day Sunday and we are all so proud of his achievements. With 21 putts in the final round, we just hope Karl can order in that putter and the Larry headcovers! We’ve added some selected links below for media coverage although there are just too many to cite.
This has been a phenomenal week for all associated with Greystones Golf Club. Thanks again Paul.

Course Update August 2017
On 21st July 2017, Mr. Conor Nolan, Turfgrass Agronomist with STRI Ltd., carried out the annual survey of the course. During his visit he was very complimentary of the quality of the greens, fairways and tee boxes. Below please find a summary of the report.
Greens
The report states: “Putting surface quality was the best I have ever recorded, anywhere”. Objective measurements were taken for speed, trueness and smoothness. The average green speed was 11ft 11in as measured by the stimpmeter. Smoothness was 9.5 mm/m with the target set at less than 23 mm/m and trueness was measured at 3.5 mm/m with a target of less than 8 mm/m.
Fairways
The report states: “Fairways offered good definition and ball support” and “No weeds were noted anywhere which reflects the high standard overall”.
Tee Boxes
The report states: “The tees were in very good condition offering good grass, good visual presentation and quick recovery from divot scarring”.
The main recommendations were to consider introducing finer grasses, such as fescues, to the greens and in particular to the aprons, and to consider removing groups of evergreen trees to promote air movement and create openings for sunlight, in particular on the 12th and 15th holes.
The council has congratulated Keith and his team on this excellent report.
Under 15 Leinster Champions – Greystones
Congratulations to our fabulous under 15s on winning the Leinster matchplay final on Saturday against Malahide. This was the culmination of a huge amount of effort by all of the panel and the coaches, Karl, Barry, John and of course Michael. Having won the first leg 3-2, we needed to secure 3 of the 5 home matches on Saturday. After a tight start (the matches were effectively level after the front 9), Greystones managed to pull away on the back 9 and especially over the last 6 holes. There was a very large home (and away) support on the course. Commiserations to Malahide on a fine performance.

Once again, well done to all involved on what has been a memorable summer for our junior section with a pennant from our under 15s, runners up in the Fred Daly (with a young team) and a home winner (Chris Lawless) in the Wicklow Boys.
President’s Prize 2017 Winner – David Kirk
Congratulations to David Kirk on winning Des Guilfoyle’s President’s Prize last Saturday. David defeated Colm Mulcahy in a keenly fought encounter with tricky weather conditions. Well played to both players on terrific runs throughout the summer months. Thanks also to Des for being an ever present from round 1 right up to the final and also to Keith and his staff on the condition of the course for the final.
President’s Prize Final this Saturday at 10am
On Saturday (August 19) the final of this year’s President’s Prize takes place. This is one of the most coveted after prizes in the club given what it represents and what it takes to win it. This year we have David Kirk and Colm Mulcahy battling it out for Des Guilfoyle’s Prize. We’re all looking forward to the match and here’s hoping we get a gripping encounter. Well done to the two players on getting this far and to President Des for his fantastic support all year.
