GUI and ILGU Proposal
The GUI and ILGU have published a proposal for a single governing body for golf in Ireland. Clubs will vote on this proposal in January 2019.
To give a better understanding on what the new body will do and how it will be for the good of the game, Pat Finn (CEO, GUI) and Sinead Heraty (CEO, ILGU) took part in a recent podcast where they answered questions from golfers about the plan.
We encourage you to listen to the podcast on one of the channels below:

Temporary Local Rule Governing Placing
Placing everywhere – effective from 6th November 2018.
A ball lying through the green may be lifted, without penalty, and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within 6 inches of, and not nearer the hole, than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.
A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it is placed, Rule 20-3d applies. If the ball when placed comes to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provisions of any other Rule apply.
If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
Please note that all temporary greens and summer tee boxes are deemed ground under repair and relief MUST be taken.

Challenge Cup Final this Sunday
Metropolitan Champions 2018
Congratulations to our Metropolitan Cup team who defeated Portmarnock on Saturday over 2 legs to win 10-8. After winning the first leg 8-1, Greystones faced an early onslaught by Portmarnock who won the first 5 matches as well as the final 2 games to leave the matches all square at 8-8 with just 2 games left on the course. That left Shay O’Keefe and John Egan needing to win at least one point with holes running out. First up, Shay won on the 18th where a superb long-distance lag putt effectively closed out his match. Shortly after, John Egan managed to also win on 18 to win the Club’s second pennant of the year. A big congratulations to all of the panel, players, caddies, the team manager Martin Commons, our conveynor Paul Keane and of course Barry Davis. Several months of hard work has paid off!

With awful weather conditions throughout the strong finish by all is testamount to the team spirit built up by manager Martin Commons and the entire panel. The return leg is on Saturday week (August 25) in Portmarnock.
