GUI/ILGU Statement Update
Covid-19 Restrictions: Course Closed
Dear Member
Following the government statement this afternoon on increased restrictions on movement, unnecessary travel, and the cancellation of sports events the GUI/ILGU have recommended that all golf courses close with immediate effect until April 19th. The statement can be viewed at the following link: https://www.golfnet.ie/news/golfnet/4645/gui-ilgu-recommend-all-clubs-and-golf-facilities-to-close.
We are implementing this recommendation as the safety of our members, staff and of the wider community is paramount. From 8 pm this evening, 24th March, there will be no access to any part of the club’s property. At the moment we can continue to maintain the course which we plan to do.
We would like to thank each and every member for their strict observance of all the restrictions that had already been put in place and for your continued support of Greystones Golf Club. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed should any change to the current policy seem likely.
Stay safe.

Covid-19 Statement from GUI/ILGU
The GUI/ILGU have issued a new statement on restrictions in place due to Covid-19. The statement can be accessed by clicking the following link: https://www.golfnet.ie/news/golfnet/4642/new-statement-on-coronavirus-covid-19
Please note that all interclub competitions have been further postponed to 30th April.
We would like to thank all members for adhering to the restrictions in place at the golf club. Please note the fairway mats have been removed and are no longer in use.
Please continue to observe the following:
- When playing casual book please book your tee time on BRS.
- Continue to observe social distancing protocols when on the course and on club grounds.
- Continue to leave the flagstick in place and unattended. Consider continuing the fine Greystones Golf Club tradition of being generous with your concessions! Give yourself the odd putt too. If you do hole out please replace your glove before retrieving the ball.
- Remain away from the club for 14 days if you have symptoms of the virus, have been in contact a confirmed case, or have returned from abroad in the past 14 days.
Stay safe and enjoy your golf.
Covid-19 Revised Restrictions
Following the Government announcement on 15th March regarding the closure of public houses we have decided to close the clubhouse, proshop and putting green with immediate effect. As with all decisions made with regard to Covid-19 our overriding priority remains the health and safety of our members and staff.
Please note special arrangements in place for St. Patrick’s Day. The competition will proceed as planned with no competition fees being charged. The results will be posted on the website as usual. The locker rooms will remain open until 5 pm to facilitate members who wish to collect personal belongings. Entry to the locker rooms will be via the putting green doors only. The showers will not be in use.
From Wednesday 18th March there will be no access to any part of the clubhouse. The course will remain open for casual golf. After 2pm the gate to the front 9 will be locked and access will be by swipe card only. The main gates will close after dark. There will be no access to buggies. Timesheets already set up will continue in place for the playing of casual golf. If you have booked a time already, and do not wish to play, please remove your name so the slot will be available to other members. It is essential that you make a booking on all casual golf days to avoid large numbers congregating at the same time. Timesheets for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays will go live in the usual manner. Timesheets for Mondays and Fridays can be accessed 7 days in advance. Use of the golf course will be restricted to members only.
Juniors can play casual golf in twoballs only. They can also use the junior chipping green but will have no access to the practice ground or main chipping green. Juniors should not congregate on club grounds and should leave on completion of their golf.
Please observe social distancing protocols when on the club grounds and during the playing of golf. To reduce the risk of contamination the pins must be kept in place at all times. The bunkers will be out of play and there will be no rakes provided. The air compressor will be decommissioned.
The office will remain open from Monday to Friday to receive phone calls only. Please select option 4 from the menu when phoning the office.
We are also seeking your continued cooperation on ensuring the safety of all our members. We have updated this policy as follows:
- Remain away from the course if you have returned from any destination abroad in the past 14 days.
- Remain away from the course for 14 days if you have been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19.
- Remain away from the course if you feel unwell or are exhibiting any symptoms associated with Covid-19.
All these arrangements are in place until 29th March when the government is due to issue further guidelines. We will be monitoring developments constantly and will send additional updates when necessary. We thank you for your patience during what is a turbulent time and we are sure that the members of Greystones Golf Club will look out for each other and stay safe.

Coronavirus – Covid 19 Update
As I am sure you are aware the situation regarding the Coronavirus is rapidly evolving. The government have issued new guidelines and in addition all golf clubs have received advice from the GUI/ILGU. This advice can be seen here:
https://www.golfnet.ie/news/golfnet/4622/statement-on-covid-19-from-gui-and-ilgu
Based on information received please note the following actions we are taking.
· All staff have been instructed on hygiene protocols.
· All surfaces, door handles etc, are being regularly sanitised.
· The automatic locking system on the main door and doors leading to the locker rooms have been disabled. It is no longer necessary to use the keypad when entering or press the green button when exiting.
· Hand sanitisers are in place throughout the clubhouse as previously advised.
· The tables have been spaced in the members’ bar and main lounge to allow for social distancing.
Golf’s governing bodies have advised that golf can continue to be played. However shotgun starts are not advised and we will not be running any events of that nature until that advice changes. Guidelines have also been issued for interclub competitions, and as a consequence we will not be participating in any inter club matches up to and including March 29th. Members will be notified of any further advice the club receives.
Due to the group nature of junior competitions for boys on Saturdays and girls on Sundays, and the difficulties that imposes on maintaining social distancing, we will not be running any junior competitions until further notice. The Ladies initiative on a Tuesday morning is also suspended until further notice.
We request that you keep up to date on the advice provided by the HSE on their website at https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/coronavirus.html. Your particular attention is drawn to the advice for people travelling home from heavily infected areas and, specifically, as we all have a responsibility to our more vulnerable members and our main priority is to keep all members and staff well, we are respectfully asking members to remain away from the Club for fourteen days if they have;
1. Returned from any of the following destinations in the last 14 days;
China – Hong Kong – Singapore – South Korea – Iran – Japan or the following regions in Italy: Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna or Piedmont and the following regions in Spain; Madrid, Vitoria and Labastida in the Basque Country, Catalonia and the Rioja region.
OR
2. Been in close contact with a confirmed case of the coronavirus in the last 14 days.
OR
3. Been experiencing Flu like symptoms and have not been assessed by the HSE.
Please continue to follow the advice issued by the HSE regarding what to do if you feel ill, hand-washing, using the hand sanitisers provided, and refraining from contact such as shaking hands and embracing associated with the etiquette of the game of golf.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will advise should any additional action be required.

Darcy Trophy Update
Darcy Trophy Match Powerscourt V Greystones in Powerscourt March 1st 2020.
Greystones played their fifth group match in the Darcy Trophy away to Powerscourt yesterday in incredibly tough conditions. The conditions together with the early start of 7.30am made this a daunting prospect but for the fifth time in this competition the Darcy team were equal to the challenge.
David Byrne set the tone for an impressively resilient performance with a 6&5 win in the opening singles and our Team Captain Alan Condron won his singles match 3&2. In the last match on the course Eddie Lonergan and Daniel O’ Byrne secured a hard fought halve to ensure the overall match was drawn at 2 &1/2 points each.
This leaves Greystones unbeaten and top of our group with 7 points from five matches. We have won both our home matches and drawn our three away matches. Our final match is at home to Druid’s Heath on March 15th and all support would be very welcome.
Finally many thanks to President Liam O’ Shea, Kieran O’Carroll and Colm Mulcahy for coming up to Powerscourt and supporting the team. As always it was very much appreciated.
