Louis O’Connor was spotted out on the Course this weekend perfecting his levitating act.
Not a great weekend for Greystones teams.
On Saturday, Colm Mulcahy and Eddie Lonergan and their Fitzgibbon Cup team played the away leg of Round 3 in Bray.
Collie Dunne & Steven Bourne were first out and came up short losing 2&1. Liam Moulton & Colm Mulcahy were third out and lost 3&2 however Chris Boylan & Rob Tierney gave the team a glimmer of hope with a great 5&3 win. The home leg of this match was played on Sunday morning. Peter Anderson & Toby Murphy were first out and were beaten on the seventeenth as were Jamie Anderson & David Kirby. The middle pair of William O’Riordan & Michael Joyce managed to grab a halved match, having been dormie two up ( no reflection on young William by the way ! ).
Earlier on Sunday morning Barry Massey’s and Karl Holmes’ charges took on Woodbrook in the first semi final of the Eamonn Darcy trophy.
David Byrne was first out in the singles, had 13 pars, 2 bogies and lost on the fifteenth … Shane O’Connor also lost on the fifteenth while Darren McCormack played great to win on the eighteenth. In the foursomes, Dylan Holmes & Chris Boylan lost on seventeen and Diarmaid MacGabhann & Alan Keane were all square playing the seventeenth when called in.
Congratulations to the Ladies’ section who had their charity lunch and fashion show in the club yesterday.
The day was a great success. Quite apart from having some great food and a lot of fun, the day raised over 5,000 Euro for Greystones Cancer Support. Both the ladies’ and men’s sections will each be running a charity day in aid of this very worthwhile local charity later in the season.
Well done to all involved.

Liam O’Shea took his Super Seniors team to Old Conna this afternoon in the first round of the defense of the title won last year.
It was a tough start for the team who would much prefer to have been playing in more summer-like conditions.
Our first pair out were Cathal Cooney & Jerry Teehan who took up where they left off last year with a strong performance and at 3&1 win. The normally excellent pair of Alan O’Sullivan & Finbar Fay were out second and they came up just short, losing out on the 18th. Jim Ryan & Vincent Prendergast were up against a strong pair found themselves one down playing the 18th but were unfortunately unable to get a half match. Pat O’Regan & Pat Raftery were a strong pair in last years successful campaign and they came up trumps again today, winning their match 2&1. Our final pair of Eddie Joynt & Denis Cromie were unlucky not to get at least a half, losing on the 18th.
So an overall loss 3 to 2, but with three matches having been decided on the 18th it could have easily gone our way on a another day.
Next up will be a match against Delgany on May 5th.
Best of luck today to Liam O’Shea and Pat Barry and their Super Seniors who head to Old Conna in the first round of the defense of the title won last year.
The team selected today is as follows:
Cathal Cooney & Jerry Teehan
Alan O ‘Sullivan & Finbar Fay.
Jim Ryan & Vincent Prendergast
Pat O ‘Regan & Pat Raftery.
Eddie Joynt & Denis Croomie
Tee off is at 11.40 in Old Conna.
The 1st match starts at 11.40 on Thursday next.

Congratulations to Barry Massey, Karl Holmes and their team who faced Old Conna in a rearranged Eamonn Darcy Trophy match at first light this morning. There were three singles matches and two foursomes matches.
David Byrne was first out and closed his match out on the 15th, as did our third man out, Shane O’Connor. Daniel O’Byrne, who played second, closed out his match on the 12th.
Old Conna put out their strongest Barton Shield pairs for the foursomes matches but they were no match for Dylan Holmes & Alan Keane who won their match on the fourteenth. Brain Frawley & Diarmaid McGabhann were unlucky not to get a half in their match, loosing on the eighteenth.
Straight after the Eamonn Darcy Team, Colm Mulcahy’s & Eddie Lonergan’s Fitzgibbon were up against a strong Woodbrook team in a home and away fixture.
At home Colm Mulcahy & Toby Murphy were first out and it took a good final putt by Toby on the eighteenth for the pair to earn a half. Our second pair of Jamie Anderson & David Kirby came out on top, winning on the seventeenth 2&1 while our final home pairing of William O’Riordan & Michael Joyce closed out their match with a good up and down for par on the sixteenth to win 3&2.
It was a tougher day for our away team. Ray Nolan & Rob Tierney went down 4&3, and Ben Crowley & Gavin Nolan lost on the seventeenth, 2&1. Our final pairing of Collie Dunne & Trevor Phillips were narrowly beaten on the eighteenth.
Despite today’s narrow loss, the team is still in with a chance of making the final.
