New Year in with a BANG !
Thanks to all those who joined us this evening to welcome in the new year. Over 450 members and their families enjoyed mulled wine, hot dogs and other treats !!
Special thanks to Gino’s Gelato and Newcastle Kitchens who have come on board this year to sponsor our social events and without whom tonight’s spectacular fireworks event couldn’t have happened. We’d be very remiss not to also note the contribution of Keith Stewart who piped the display into action !!
A very important visitor to Greystones G.C.
We had a very important visitor to the Club over the past couple of weeks – Santa visited twice and everyone had a ball on both occassions.
Thanks to Lady Captain Celine and Lady Vice Captain Ciara for all their hard work organising the visits and to Ciara especially who made sure that all the children had a great day on both Sundays.
Thanks, as always to Paul and Jackie and his team in the bar and to Olivia and Ali in the kitchen for their excellent service.
A busy week in the clubhouse ……
The Clubhouse was all decked out for Christmas, thanks to the decorating team, for what was to be a busy week, starting on Monday (5th) with the North East Wicklow Alliance Golf outing. Five clubs took part in this social golfing event (Delgany, Woodbrook, Dun Laoghaire, Carrickmines and Greystones).
On Tuesday morning our “Get into Golf” ladies had their Christmas Scramble. While the ladies were eating lunch, our 1895’s were on the course playing their Christmas event which was followed by dinner in the Clubhouse.
The highlight of the week was the Ladies Christmas Tea which took place on Thursday with eighty ladies sitting down for dinner and carols.
Believe it or not Interclub Matches have started already…..
Our Ladies were first out of the blocks for the 2022-2023 season this morning when they took on Old Conna in Greystones in the inaugural Ladies Darcy Cup competition.
Our singles players today were Niamh Kielty, Mary Hutch and Jennifer Moore and our foursomes pairs saw Deirdre Ahern pair up with Sophie Lumley and Mary Lockhart with Shauna Seifried.
All matches are played off scratch and Old Conna came with a very strong team today.
First out was Niamh who turned three down but she fought back, winning fourteen and fifteen to stand on the sixteenth tee box just one down. A half on sixteen was followed by a loss on the seventh and Old Conna had their first point. A good performance for Niamh who was six shots higher than her opponent. Mary Hutch won the ninth to get her match to just two down at the turn but, despite some excellent golf Mary lost on the fifteenth. Again there was a sizable handicap difference with Mary being 7 shots higher than the Old Conna opposition. Jennifer was struggling with a knee injury today but still had her match at all square after an excellent win on the ninth. Despite her best efforts Jennifer’s match was over 2&1 after a loss on the seventeenth.
Our foursomes pairs fared a little better with Deirdre and Sophie getting to the eighteenth all square but it just wasn’t our day and they were unfortunate on the eighteenth to loose one down. Our final Pair of Mary and Shauna, who was making her seniors debut, were the jewels in the crown today winning their match on the fifteenth after a fantastic putting display from Shauna in particular.
Jacinta Dean was team manager today.
