Unfortunately our very wet summer caused a number of our Ladies’ competitions to be delayed this year, missing the Annual Dinner & Prize-Giving night. Thankfully all have been decided at this stage and these trophies will be presented at the Ladies’ Christmas Tea on December 7th.
The winners of the competitions which had been delayed are as follows:
Senior Scratch Cup – Jennifer Moore
Junior Scratch Cup – Sandra Cotter
Minor Scratch Cup – Joan Joynt
Sandra’s win in the Junior Scratch Cup was enough for her to pip Jacinta Dean by just two points for Golfer of the Year.
Congratulations to all.
Photographer Charlie Sharkey was in for a busy day yesterday as he arrived to Greystones to take the team photographs for the Greystones 2023 winners. A total of nine pennants were won by our Ladies, Gents and Junior teams, a fasntastic haul that is unprecedented and, perhaps is unlikely to be repeated. Toby Murphy had nearly as long a day as Charlie, having featured in four winning teams himself.
Congratulations to all the winners, and all those who pulled on the Club shirt throughout the year.
Congratulations to Mark Connaughton who came up on the outside to pip Captain’s Prize winner, David Fagan into second place for Golfer Of The Year.
Mark’s win in the Class Cup coupled with his Medal 7 win and his Medal 4, 7th place earlier in the year was enough to get him into the number one spot when it mattered most.
Mark finished on 240 points with David on 230.
In third place was Michael Gaughran who scored 220 points.
Well done to Mark and to all those who featured on GOTY leaderboard.
We had nine players in action across the girls & boys senior schools qualifier today which was played in Newlands Golf Club.
Best of the results was a great win in the individual girls championship where Shauna Seifried took first place, shooting a round of 12 over, beating Isabella Stewart into second place (13 over). Sophie Lumley finished in sixth. Emma Haugh (13th ) and Stella Doyle ( 33rd )were also representing their schools in the event today.
Best of the boys was Jamie Anderson (11th) who shot 6 over with William O’Riordan (16th) shooting 9 over. Also competing in the boys’ event today were Jack McGovern (19th) and John O’Boyle (33rd).
There was team success for both the Greystones girls and the Greystones boys with St. David’s finishing in 3rd place (girls) and St Michael’s also finishing 3rd (boys).
Well done to all our juniors who participated today.
Congratulations to all the 2023 prize winners who were presented their trophies by Lady Captain Celine last night at the Ladies’ Annual Dinner.
A great night was had by all, with (half of) ABBA on stage providing the entertainment.
Best of luck to Ben Crowley’s Under 15 Boys team who take on Blainroe in the second leg of the Leinster final.
Blainroe hold a slender 2-1 lead after the away leg.
Tee off in Greystones tomorrow is at 13:30.
