Friday 31th May ….our first outdoor BBQ was a great success with over 50 participants in our very popular “9 and Dine”.
The winners on the evening were Colm and Geraldine Mulcahy with her sister Pamela and Michael O Loughlin with an unbelievable score of 54 points ….well played a great result much to the chagrin of John Brophy, Wendy and the Fleetwoods who thought they were unbeatable with 51 points but they were only tied second with Hugh O Rourke, his Mum Mairead and good friend Shane Mc Cormack .
It was great to see Rachel Hamilton out playing in her first major competition in the club with her husband Tommy and friends Linda and Conor Gormley. We hope it will be the first of many.

Leinster Woman’s Challenge Trophy
The Greystones Challenge team romped home with a convincing win yesterday.
We were fortunate to have home advantage in all 5 matches for our first outing against Hermitage Golf club. As the Hermitage team pulled into the car park, the heavens opened. It was touch and go as to whether the match would go ahead. The course closed for a half hour, but just in the nick of time, as the match was due to start, the course was opened again. As it was proving too difficult to find another suitable date within the time frame we decided to go ahead. The format, which differed from other GUI matches, was in competition form, played over 9 holes,Stableford and qualifying. Best three scorecards out of 5 to count. Despite flooded bunkers and very wet terrain the ladies did us proud. 48 to 32 was more than enough to secure a second round place. Many thanks to Ben for all his help and guidance. Thank you to a very proud Captain Mark (who watched Kathryn tee off with a spectacular first shot into the 1st green) and Vice Captain Janet who were present to see the team off and support.
Team :

Special shout out to our Super Sub Bernie O’Broin who not only was on hand to play if needed but also chief supporter.
Well done to you all.

Barton Shield and Senior Foursomes Qualifying in Blainroe
On a breezy Saturday morning our Barton Shield team took to the course in Blainroe to qualify in the top four to progress to the next stage.
12 teams were in attendance. Representing Greystones were Adam Packman with Alan Condren and David Byrne with Dylan Holmes. The format was foursomes strokeplay with both cards to be counted. At the end of the day Greystones got through “by the skin of their teeth”(direct quote from Manager Karl Holmes) with a count back on the best card getting the team through on a back 9 countback.
Well done to Karl and his team.
Our ladies Senior Foursomes team were also in qualifying in Blainroe lead by Jacinta Deane. Their were four teams to qualify with two cards to count from three. Unfortunately Greystones missed out in fifth place by two shots.
Hard luck to Jacinta and her team.
Greystones defeat Woodenbridge
Our Leinster Senior Men’s Interclub team took on Woodenbridge on Friday afternoon. This competition is a fourball matchplay event with two matches at home and away.
At home Dermot Barry and Conor Lucey were first up followed by Neil Lawless and Paul Creedon. In both matches Woodenbridge took early leads but Greystones recovered to lead at the turn.
Meanwhile in Woodenbridge Michael Whelan and Macdara Cummins lead the way followed by Andy Nolan and Dermot Whiston. Michael and Macdara were involved ina tight affair, after 9 holes they were 2 down but still well in the game. Andrew and Dermot were involved in a very up and down match where no holes were halved on the front nine and had developed a 3 hole lead. The lads kept their foot on the gas and despite Woodenbridge winning two holes late on Greystones closed the deal on 16. At home Dermot Barry and Conor Lucey won 10 & 11 to go 3 up. After this a few holes were swapped to and fro and Greystones picked up another point on 17.
In Woodenbridge Michael and Macdara were level through 17 holes. Macdara then played 3 beautiful shots to 18 to close out the match.
Neil and Paul at home swapped holes over the back nine and were still one up through 16 holes when the match was called in.
Overall result was 3.5 to 0.5.
Congratulations to Trevor Phillips and Stephen O’Brien and their team.
Final results were as follows:
Home
Conor Lucey/Dermot Barry won 2&1
Neil Lawless/Paul Creedon 1 up through 16 when called in
Away
Dermot Whiston/Andrew Nolan won 4&2
Michael Whelan/Macdara Cummins 1up
