Leinster Finals for Fred Daly and U15s
Our Fred Daly team will play in the Leinster final at Portmarnock Links against Dundalk on July 28 at 10am for all of those hoping to attend.
We are awaiting news on the U-15 final.
Teams news
Unfortunately both of our mixed teams lost over the past week or so. The Irish Mixed team were beaten by a very strong Stackstown team in the Leinster quarter final. This ended a great run over both this year and last year. This week our Cullen Cup team (winners in 2015 and 2016) lost to Edenderry in the third round of the competition. With all 5 matches away, this was always going to be a tough ask. Thanks again to all of those involved with the mixed panels over the past 2 years and for all of those who came out to support the teams.
On a positive note, the under 15s are through to the Leinster finals. A great achievement so far. This follows in the footsteps of their older colleagues in the Fred Daly team. Fingers crossed for both panels in the weeks ahead.
Lady Captain’s Prize Results
Congratulations to Janet Devin on winning Monica Smith’s Lady Captain’s Prize. Following a superb 42 points on Sunday, Janet added a further 34 points to take home the first prize on 76 points. Well done also to Hayley Mulcahy and Liz-Anne Woollam (runner-up) who also managed to beat the 72 point mark over the 2 rounds. In tough weather conditions, the scoring really was excellent. See the Ladies results section for a very detailed breakdown of all the winners from the 2 days. Thanks again to all involved in the run up to and during the Captains day.
Revive, Fred Daly and All Ireland Mixed matches
With the business end of the interclub season drawing in, we have three teams in action over the next few days. First up, the ladies Revive team play Wicklow later today with a 4pm start.
On Sunday, our Fred Daly side play Kilkenny in the Leinster semi-final. We have 3 matches at home and 2 away. The matches will start at 3.10 in Greystones.
On Monday our Mixed team continue the defence of their All Ireland pennant. We play Stackstown in the Leinster quarter-final with 3 matches at home and 2 away. The matches will start at 4.30.
Once again, all support would be welcome.
Multiple gold medal winner in our midst
A huge congratulations to Garry Campbell who won 2 gold medals for Ireland at the World Transplant Games in Malaga this week. Garry led the field in the men’s singles category (60-69 years) ahead of South Africa and Austria. He also won gold in the team event with Michael Dwyer. We always knew he was a very fine player but these are fantastic achievements. We’re certainly proud of what he has done in representing his country and delivering on such a big stage. Well done.

Charity fundraising update
Last Thursday (June 22), €2,100 was raised in the Lady Captain’s charity day for Bray Lakers. This event follows a number of successful fund-raising initiatives by the ladies section in 2017. This included €1,000 for St. Vincent de Paul in December, €2,100 for the women’s refuge centre in Bray following the fashion show and €2,000 for breast cancer research, raised on the Pink Day in May. Thanks to all for partaking and contributing in the year to date.
Lady Captains Day 1
The first day of Monica Smith’s Captains Prize took place on Sunday last with over 100 entrants. Thankfully the weather cleared as the day progressed and the scoring was particularly good. In the lead at the moment is Janet Devin with an outstanding score of 42 points. Aisling Marmion also excelled with 40 points. After that, the field remains quite bunched with two ladies on 39 points, a further two on 38 and a number on the 36 point mark. There were 16 birdies on the day and the scoring reflected the excellent condition of the course – well done to Keith and his team. Thanks should also go to Bliss cuisine for the mid-round barbeque and all the work over the past number of months by Monica, Angela and their team. Best of luck to all of the players and Monica on the 2nd and final day on Thursday.
Senior cup team narrowly miss out
On Sunday our Senior Cup panel narrowly lost out (2-3) to Dun Laoighaire in the final of the regional qualifiers. Having beaten Powerscourt, Blainroe and Wicklow over the course of the weekend, we came up just 1 match short on Sunday afternoon in Druids Heath. The golf on Sunday was of the highest standard on a tough course. Thanks to all of the panel members and management on a very fine effort.
Junior teams into 2 semi finals
Well done to the under-15s and Fred Daly teams who both progressed last weekend to Leinster semi-finals. The Under 15s managed to successfully negotiate their 2nd leg against Elm Park on Friday morning, having won the first leg 4.5 to 0.5. On Saturday, the Fred Daly team also overcame Elm Park winning 3-2 in a very close encounter. The achievements of both sides are testament to their hard work, practice and coaching over the last number of months. Well done to all and keep it up.
