Greystones Boys qualify for next round….
Greystones hosted a Leinster region qualifying round for the Irish Boys Interclub Championship this morning.
Our new club professional, Davie Lewis took charge of the team and with a home qualifier came the expectation that qualification should be possible. No pressure for Davie however…
On a very blustery morning, the team included a mixture of youth & experience, or rather youth with experience and youth with less experience.
First out was the ever reliable Jamie Anderson who posted a solid 35 followed by Jack McGovern who shot an excellent 39. Jack’s score was the best score of the 50 players who teed it up in the qualifier. Tom Murray, our third man out shot a great 37 and Marc Lawless who struggled early on but stuck at it and never gave up shot 28. Our fifth man, Milo Doyle came in with a very creditable score of 33 on his first main team outing for the club after putting in a great performance in the substitute match in the Under 15 competition last week in Blainroe.
Greystones total of 111 made us the leading qualifier with our neighbours Bray clinching the second qualifying spot with a score of 105.
Well done to Davie and all involved.
Ladies outfox Foxrock…
Another great win for Greystones Ladies and team manager Lisa Croke in their second round Revive Active match today. With three home and two away and a very strong squad to pick from a good performance was hoped for but in the event the ladies really put up a show.
Mary Lockhart & Regina Barry led off at home and were 1 up through 6 and hit the pro button from there in winning the 7th, 10th, 11th and 14th without losing a hole to win their match 5&4. Jacinta Dean & Aine O’Rourke got off to a flyer, winning the first four holes before a spirited fightback from their Foxrock opposition pegged them back to 1 up after 11. The Greystones pair took control from there however, winning the 12th and halving the 13th before closing out their match with wins on 14 & 15.
Two nil to Greystones and it was another away match that sealed the deal.
After another good start Mary Hutch & Nicky Brooks were 2 up after three holes but in an extremely tight match from there and were just 1 up with four holes remaining. Wins on the 16th and 17th were enough to win their match and secure the tie for Greystones. Both remaining matches, Hayleigh Mulcahy & Sandra Cotter at home and Marquerite Hamill & Orla Delaney in Foxrock were 1 up through 15 when called in.
Congratulations to Lisa and all involved.
