Another Leinster South beckons this afternoon after an impressive win for our Women’s Senior Foursomes team this morning in their semi final.
Jacinta Deane’s team were up against a tough Edmonmstown crew in Druid’s Heath this morning but came through in flying colours.
First out for Greystones this morning were Aisling Marmion & Niamh Kielthy who played really well on the front nine to turn one up, but they really turned up the heat on the back nine, winning ten and eleven to get to three up. Twelve was halved but another win on thirteen put the Greystones pair in a commanding lead, with a half on fourteen getting them to dormie. The match was done 5&3 after an excellent win on fifteen. One up to Greystones.
Our second match of Deirdre Ahern & Sophie Lumley didn’t have it quite to easy however. Wins on one and five were only enough to have them all square and, with losses on eight and nine they were two down through the front nine. They reduced the deficit with an excellent win on the tricky tenth but the Edmondstown lead was restored to two on the next hole. It was nip and tuck from there in with thirteen through sixteen being halved to take the match to dormie two up in favour of Edmonstown. Everything has to go your way in this situation and it just wasn’t to be today for Deirdre & Sophie as they could only half the seventeenth to lose 2&1.
Out last this morning were Mary Lockhart & Shauna Siefried. Mary & Shauna started slowly and found themselves two down after three holes but then found their rhythm, winning four through six to take a slender lead for the first time. Seven went to Edmonstown and the match remained all square to the tenth tee. Once again the Greystones pair changed gear and threw in three straight wins from the tenth, moving them into pole position at three up with just five holes remaining. Thirteen was lost but their three hole lead was restored with a fine win on fourteen. It was now a case of holding their nerve, especially after Edmonstown reduced their lead winning the fifteenth, but halves on sixteen and seventeen were enough to get the 2&1 win for Greystones and to take the team to the Leinster South final this afternoon.
Jacinta’s team play Old Conna this afternoon the the final (tee off at 2.45).
