Congratulations to the Challenge Cup team managed by Monica Smith on defeating Corrstown last Sunday at the K Club to reach the Leinster Final. Well done to all on a great campaign so far.

Teams news
Unfortunately both of our mixed teams lost over the past week or so. The Irish Mixed team were beaten by a very strong Stackstown team in the Leinster quarter final. This ended a great run over both this year and last year. This week our Cullen Cup team (winners in 2015 and 2016) lost to Edenderry in the third round of the competition. With all 5 matches away, this was always going to be a tough ask. Thanks again to all of those involved with the mixed panels over the past 2 years and for all of those who came out to support the teams.
On a positive note, the under 15s are through to the Leinster finals. A great achievement so far. This follows in the footsteps of their older colleagues in the Fred Daly team. Fingers crossed for both panels in the weeks ahead.
Teams Update
Following a busy weekend for our teams, we’re still active on a number of fronts in the chase for pennants. Our Under 15 team lead 4.5 – 0.5 against Elm Park in the Leinster quarterfinals with the return leg to come on Friday. Unfortunately both our Jimmy Bruen and Powerscourt Cup teams bowed out this weekend. On the ladies side our Junior Foursomes team showed great heart to defeat Powerscourt on the 20th hole in the deciding 3rd match late on Sunday evening. Both the Minor Cup and Ladies Junior Cup sides however lost over the weekend. Once again, thanks to everyone for all of the commitment in representing and supporting the club.
Irish Mixed team into Leinster 1/4 final
On Thursday, our defending Irish Mixed title holders put in a superb performance to overcome a very strong Milltown side in a last 16 tie. The team managed by Jennifer Moore and Gavin McGirr had home advantage for the first time in the competition. After a very close fought match for much of the evening, Greystones pulled away by winning both matches in Milltown as well as the first match in Greystones. Well done to all involved as we look forward to another quarter final.
More Junior Success
Yet more positive news from our strong junior section with terrific wins for both our Under 15s and Fred Daly teams last weekend. On Sunday, the Fred Daly team beat Bray 3-2 in the 3rd round to progress into the last 8 of the competition. Prior to that, inspiration must have been drawn from our Under 15s who overcame Naas in the 3rd round of the Leinster matchplay competition. With the matches tied 5 all, Greystones won on the 22nd hole in near darkness to progress. Well done to all of the players, managers, supporters and the coaches on a fantastic season so far. The many hours of sacrifice and practice so far are clearly paying rich dividends. We will post details of upcoming matches once they are confirmed.
Good weekend for Greystones teams
Our teams fared well over a busy weekend of interclub golf. First up, the Cullen Cup team overcame Borris to progress to the next round after a strong home performance. The first 3 games were won with the other 2 matches called in. The Fred Daly team beat Blainroe to progress into the latter stages with another fine performance. Unfortunately our Pierce Purcell team failed to get through qualifying at Roundwood on Saturday. On Sunday, our Metropolitan team put in a strong display to advance (beating Foxrock). The weekend was capped off by superb wins by the Ladies Minor and Junior Cup teams, beating Rathfarnham (3-2) and Grange (4-1), respectively. Best of luck to the ladies Junior Foursomes team who play Edmonstown today.
Impressive display by the Under 15s
Our Under 15 team put in a huge performance to beat Killiney 5-0 in Greystones on Sunday afternoon to progress to the last 16 in Leinster. Following a 3-2 deficit in the 1st leg, this was an exceptional display by all members of the panel. It has been a fantastic start to the year for our junior teams (the Fred Daly team play next Saturday), with the hard months of practice and coaching throughout the Winter and Spring paying rich dividends so far.
