On Thursday June 15, our Irish mixed team take on Milltown in the mixed foursomes. We’re down to the last 16 in Leinster so momentum is once again building. The matches are due to kick-off at 5pm with 3 games in Greystones and 2 away. We are defending Leinster and All Ireland champions so please come out to support the team.

Mixed week for our teams
Over the past week several of our teams have been in action. Unfortunately both the Junior and Metropolitan Cup teams didn’t manage to progress last weekend despite the best efforts of players and management. On a more positive note the Cullen Cup team advanced to the next round following a superb 3-2 win over near neighbours Bray.
Cullen Cup seeking 12 from 12
Our 2 time winning Cullen Cup team play Bray later today in the 2nd round of the competition. GGC are unbeaten in this competition since 2014 – a run of 11 successive rounds. This has been a fantastic achievement to date, and is testament to work put in by players, caddies, team managers, conveyors and the support provided by the Club.
Let’s hope for another good performance today. The match kicks off at 5pm in Greystones.
Ladies Revive
The Revive team are getting into the habit of winning close matches with a superb victory over Powerscourt on Monday, May 29th. Similar to the previous round against Bray, Greystones looked set to be beaten for most of the afternoon/evening. Once again, Greystones staged a very late comeback in win two late matches to advance by the narrowest of margins. Huge congratulations to all the players, panel members and of course Ciara Marmion for masterminding another win.
Fred Daly and U-15s
The Under 15s play their 2nd leg of their last 16 tie against Naas (away) on Saturday with a 4pm kick-off. We are leading 3-2 heading into this leg so fingers crossed that the team can come away with a positive result. The Fred Daly team are also in action this weekend against our neighbours Bray on Sunday. This is a last-16 match, with 2 games at home starting at 2pm and 3 away matches starting at 3.30pm. Best of luck to both teams in what is a big weekend for our juniors.
Continued success for our teams
Greystones teams are continuing to perform well. The All Ireland Mixed Winning team kept up their excellent form with a very strong showing against Edmondstown. Greystones won both home matches and won 2 of the 3 matches away (we were also up in the remaining tie when they were called in). Next up for Jennie and Gavin’s team is an encounter with Milltown. Unfortunately, the winning run of our men’s fourball side came to an end on Saturday with a narrow (3-2) loss against the Grange. The Barton Shield team qualified on Saturday at Old Conna and defeated Charlesland on Sunday. However, we came up just short against Dun Laoghaire on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, the Ladies Boyne Trophy team put in a superb performance to beat Druids Heath (4-1) and our Super Seniors team also won 4-1 against Knockanally, although that may not be sufficient for them to qualify for the semi-finals.
More teams in action this weekend
Several of our teams play this weekend and as ever please come out to support your club home and away. The All Ireland Mixed Champions play Edmondstown on Friday at 4.00pm. We have 2 matches at home and 3 away. Saturday promises to be a busy day on the men’s side with both the Leinster Fourball (vs Grange) and the Barton Shield teams in action. The shield team start qualifying at 8.45am in Old Conna with the Fourball matches kicking off at 3.40pm.
Win for the ladies junior foursomes
Well done to Marguerite Hamill’s Junior Foursomes team who defeated Edmondstown on Monday last (2-1) at Milltown.
Greystones teams in action this weekend
A busy weekend ahead for our teams. First up, the Cullen Cup team (defending champions 2015 and 2016) start their campaign against Borris on Friday with all 5 games at home. The squad are chasing a third successive win in this competition and are now unbeaten since 2014 (a run of 8 successive rounds). Best of luck to Betty, Colm and the panel in chasing a hat trick. The AIG Pierce Purcell Shield gets underway on Saturday with qualifying in Roundwood. The team managed by Padraic Croke will be hoping to go one better than last year after narrowly missing out in the first regional qualifier. Our Metropolitan team are also in action with 9 singles matches against Foxrock (home and away) on Sunday. On the junior side, following the brilliant win last weekend by our under 15s, their senior counterparts play in the Fred Daly on Saturday against Blainroe. Once again, lets hope our teams have a successful weekend and please come out to support the players, caddies and managers.
Big revival by the Revive team
An afternoon of high drama for the Ladies Revive Active team, who staged a dramatic late comeback to see off neighbours Bray 3-2 on Sunday, May 7. Trailing 1-4 for the vast majority of the afternoon and with holes rapidly running out, our 2 home pairs put in strong finishes to win 2 from 2 at home. Away from home however, the real turnaround was performed by Mary Hutch and Haley Mulcahy who were 3 down through 11 but fought back to win 5 of the last 7 holes to ensure our path into the next round. This follows a series of comebacks from our teams already this year. Well done to all panel members and to the manager Ciara Marmion.
