What a great win for team Europe this afternoon and those lucky enough to get to watch it on the giant screen in the club got to witness the success of Luke Donald’s team in all it’s glory.
The nine hole scramble event held early this morning ahead of the Ryder Cup pitted team Europe ( captained by Lady Captain Celine with Junior Girls’ Captain, Isabella as team vice captain ) against Team USA ( captained by Captain John with Junior Boy’s Captain, Jamie as his vice-captain ). As it turned out, thankfully, this was the only success that Team USA had today with a USA win by a 356 to 351 scoreline.
The front nine two person team event was won by Brian Burke with his guest, Siobhan Whelan (Delgany) who beat Evan Dalton and his guest from Dun Laoghaire, Alexander Flynn into second place.
The back nine competition was won by Phillip and Aoife Dempsey with Finbarr Fay and Tommy Kealy in runner up spot.
Many thanks to Ali, Olivia and the catering team and to Paul Lee and the bar crew for serving up a great brunch to the players.

Congratulations to David O’Toole who won the 2023 Gold Medal with a 71 today, beating Barry Massey by a single shot.
Also on contention today for the Gold Medal were, Rob Hurley, Denis Cromie, Mark Connaughton, Conor Lucey and Antti Happonen.
David’s win moves him to fourteenth in the GOTY but this is not settled yet, with two Class Cup finals outstanding. David Fagan holds a slender lead but M<ark Connaughton can win if he wins his Class Cup final.
