Snooker fever was resurrected in the club recently with the revival of The Club Snooker Championship. The following report is from Conor Fleetwood.
It was a pleasure to restart the club snooker championship last played for way back in 2000, when Danny Hatton beat Philip Pratt to lift the trophy.
This year, we had 28 entries and opted for a knockout competition.
After battling through four rounds our final was made up with Philip Nolan taking on Will Kelly, in front of a capacity crowd that included our men’s captain and ladies’ vice-captain.
Philip took an early two frame lead. But Will battled back winning the third frame on the pink. In the fourth, Philip took a commanding lead, but Will again found some great form, and all seemed to point to a fifth frame decider. But Philip held his nerve and won the fourth and the championship.
Feedback from the contestants has been wonderful and much talk has been of establishing a Greystones team that will challenge other clubs in the winter months. The future of snooker in Greystones Golf Club is safe.
