Today at Greystones Golf Club we hopefully had the beginning of better weather for the coming season.
We played host to Old Conna and Powerscourt Golf Clubs who were competing in the final of the Fitzgibbon Cup. This was the 51st edition of the tournament.
In what turned out to be a one-sided match Powerscourt won the first three matches 5&4, 5&4 and 4&3 and were up in the last two matches when they were called in. The final score was 4-1.
Officials from both clubs were very complimentary about the condition of the course and the food provided after the match. Thanks were also expressed to Paul Keane and Colm Mulcahy for the organisation of this year’s completed.
Ken Fitzgibbon (son of competition founder) was on hand to watch the match and to make the presentation to the victors along with our Captain Mark McAleer.
As winners this year Powerscourt will now take responsibility for organising the competition and hosting the final. Hopefully Greystones can be there.
