After reaching the Semi-final last year our Best Cup team took on Elm Park with high hopes of progression especially as we had three matches at home and two away.
However it became clear early on that this was going to be a difficult task. In Elm Park, where the tie teed off an hour ahead of matches in Greystones, the home side built a substantial lead and were 5 up through 9 holes, Greystones did get one back but a birdie on 14 for Elm Park gave them the first point. In the second match Greystones fought hard and in a nip and tuck game won on the 19th.
Meanwhile in Greystones Elm Park were up in two matches early on while Greystones claimed an early lead in the other match. Elm Park ran out comfortable winners by claiming two points in Greystones and the last match was called in with Greystones one up.
Final result Elm Park 3.5 – 1.5 Greystones.
