Today saw the inaugural Wicklow Girls event take place in Greystones. The Wood family have kindly sponsored the Wicklow Boys event for many years and suggested last year that they would also like to sponsor a Wicklow Girls event. Needless to say, Junior Convener, Peter Anderson and the Junior Committee were more than delighted to jump on board with most of the heavy lifting being done by Patrice Dowling with assistance from Iris Haughton and Peter.
Greystones welcomed players from fourteen clubs today for this event, from as far afield as Craigavon and Westport.
Golf Ireland were also on hand, in the form of Neil Kilgallon, who ran a Girls Development Hub event in conjunction with the main Wicklow Girls competition. In fact, this turned out to be the biggest Girls Development Hub event across the country this year.
As ever, behind the scenes, club OM Liam Moulton made sure that the day ran perfectly.
Carmel Wood was on hand to present the winner, Ellen Larkin from Powerscourt Golf Club, with the beautiful trophy. Ellen shot 43 points off 28.
Isabella Stewart won the May Fitzgibbon plate for the best score by a Greystones player.
We look forward to welcoming all the players, and more, next year for the second running of this excellent competition.
