Congratulations to Isabella Stewart & Sophie Lumley who competed in the Duggan Cup in Bray Golf Club over the weekend.
Both girls qualified in the top 16 for the match-play section of the competition out of the Saturday qualifier. Unfortunately Isabella narrowly lost her first round match on the 17th but Sophie prevailed in her match to make it to the quarter finals.
On Saturday afternoon Sophie faced another tough match. It took nineteen holes to separate the pair and it was Sophie who won out in the end. After a very busy day she was able to have a well earned sleep on Saturday night ahead of Sunday’s semi final.
In the semi final on Sunday morning, Sophie faced local favorite Elaine Sutton from Bray Golf Club but even with the home advantage Elaine was unable to handle Sophie’s game. Sophie won 2 up to get set up a final against Erin Poots, who had traveled from Knock for the competition. Erin had knocked out Orla Smyth of Grange Golf Club in the second semi final. The final was a tight affair but unfortunately it was Erin who got over the line, winning 2&1.
It was a great that two Greystones girls qualified for the match-play and what a wonderful performance by Sophie to get to the final.
