Quietly, in the background,Liam O’Shea and Pat Barry have been guiding their Super Seniors team to the defense of their title (and the only 2021 title for the club). After a less than hoped for start away to Old Conna, where three matches were settled on the 18th but where the result fell to the home team 3-2, Liam and Pat’s team followed up with an excellent 4-1 win against Delgany.
Last Thursday the lads traveled to Woodbrook for a crucial match where they needed to earn 3 1/2 points to fight their way through to the quarter final stage.
On the day the team came up trumps as we are coming to expect of this squad.
Cathal Cooney & Jerry Teehan won 4&3, Alan O’Sullivan & Sean Hynes earned a half point from their match, Ray Hogan & Vincent Prendergast also won 4&3, and Eddie Joynt & Denis Cromie won on the 18th. Jim Ryan & John Carroll recorded the only loss of the day despite playing very well.
The quarter final matches have yet to be announced but they will be played on a home and away basis and will be played before the end of this month.
