Hard luck to Margaret McGirr and her team who were narrowly beaten today by Wexford Golf Club.
We had three matches at home and our third home pair of Jacinta Dean & Anne Costello certainly took no prisoners in their match, winning eight holes in the first twelve without loss to win their match 8&6.
Marguerite Hamill & Nicky Brooks, out last at home, also closed their match well, turning three up and doing enough to win 3&1 while never looking in any danger of losing. Our middle pair at home of Jenifer Moore & Ann-Marie Darcy came up against two strong visiting players and tuned two down. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, they lost on the seventeenth 2&1.
A loss at home is never a good thing in any match but to credit of the Greystones away team of Therese Garvey & Jean Taylor and Aine O’Rourke who was paired with Trudy Bolton they didn’t give up without a fight.
Therese & Jean were three down after nine and four down after ten but still took their match all the way to the eighteenth where they unfortunately lost 2 down. In contrast, Aine & Trudy turned three up but a very strong performance from their Wexford opponents on the back nine had the Greystones pair dormy one down on the eighteenth. A half was enough for Wexford to close out the match and the tie.
Hard luck to all involved.
