Alan Byrne’s Jimmy Bruen team played Bray this afternoon in the quarter final stage of the competition. Due to fixture congestion the away match was played a few days before the home leg. With three matches away the obvious danger was that, if a point couldn’t be won this afternoon we would have no need to play the home matches.
Our first pair out were Ian Mullally & Eddie Davis. On an incredibly hot day on Bray head the lads turned 2 down and while they played well were unable to claw the match back and ultimately lost 3& 2. Second out were Alan Byrne & Craig Hazelton who got off to a dreadful start and found themselves 4 down through 7. A fantastic fight back saw them 1 down with 2 to play and after halving the 17th in pars the lads went to 18 needing a win. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and Alan had to try to hole a 17 footer that just slipped past the hole to keep the match alive .
It wasn’t looking great for the third match early on either with Tom Byrne & Jamie Anderson 1 down after the first nine holes. Neither Tom nor Jamie have giving up in their DNA however and a very strong start to their back 9 gained them a 2 hole lead with three to play. A win for Bray on 16th had the anxiety levels for the Greystones spectators rise but the Greystones pair kept their heads and a win for them on the 17th sealed the match 2&1.
The two home matches will be played on Sunday afternoon. You can follow the live scoring using the Live Scoring webpage which can be found by CLICKING HERE or by following the link on this website’s Home page.
