What a couple of days ! Bright sunshine ( and some very bright clothes ) helped, but Vice Captain Danny and Club Manager Liam really pulled out all the stops to produce one of our most memorable Captain’s Days for Captain Philip. The course was immaculately presented by course superintendent Keith Clancy and as usual Olivia, Liz and the team made sure none of us were hungry. Paul Lee and his team did their, at this stage normal, fantastic Captain’s night job albeit all outdoors. Many thanks to John O’Keeffe and Diago for their drinks sponsorship which was greatly appreciated by all ( no surprise there ). Davie Lewis and his team, in their first Captain’s Day at Greystones ensured that everything from a golfing perspective went off to perfection.
Of course, there can only be one winner and this year we had a very popular winner indeed. Local restaurateur Julian Keown shot one under gross off 5 to win with 42 points beating Gary O’Connor who had 41 points into second and Keith Lewis who also had 41 points into third place. It was a double win for Julian, who also won the Frazer Cup for the low round of the day. In an emotional winners’ speech Julian dedicated the win to his good friend Stephen Cahill, who sadly passed away last year.
Many congratulations to Captain Philip on a great club day – thanks Philip.
