All good things must come to an end and so it was as Greystones Golf Club’s run of form in the 2021 season was halted this afternoon when Gerry Kenny’s Barton Cup team came up against an exceptional Blainroe team.
In awful conditions and with three matches away Gerry, Martin and the lads were up against it. Unfortunately George O’Brien & Ben Crowley, both who have been standout players in previous matches ( and will be next time out also no doubt ) met their match today losing 6&5 in Blainroe. Three down with four to play was a bridge too far for Harry Kirk & Sean O’Gorman who lost 4&2 in the end. Meanwhile in Greystones Michael Smullen & Eddie Davis were 1 up through 13 as were Paul Keane & Ian Mullally after 12. In Blainroe, Alan Keane & Jody Keown fought back to all square after 15 but losses on 16 & 17 sealed their fate and the tie. Three wins at home for Blainroe with our two home matches up when called in resulted in a 4:1 scoreline.
Hard luck to Gerry, Martin & the squad.
