Saturday 23rd May
Our Barton Shield team headed to Hermitage Golf Club for the 2105 qualifier. Expectations were high after a lot of preparation by the team and manager Collie Dunne over the winter. It wasn’t to be however. On the day Alan Condren and Eddie Lonergan fought back after a slow start to finish at a very good 4 over par. Shane O’Connor & Daniel O’Byrne had a good front 9, however they hit water on the 10th and took a triple bogey and had another couple of costly holes to finish at 11 over par. The cumulative 16 over missed out qualification by 2 shots.

Sunday 17th May
A busy day and a mixed bag for the Greystones teams.
First out were the Metroplolitan Cup team who had an away fixture against Beechpark GC inthe second round. Four home and five away always makes for a tough fixture but team managers Gerry Kileather and John Kilmartin put our a strong team. With an earlier start time at Greystones all looked in good shape as Jack Joyce put a point on the board ( 4&3 ), followed by Shay Hoey ( 4&3 ) and Con Thomas ( 2&1). The last home match was then won by Kieran Dowdall ( 4&3 ) to give Greystones a 4 nil lead. News began to filter back from Beechpark and it looked difficult from early on. In the end despite their best efforts Ray McDonnell, Cathal Cooney Cian Gilmore, and Peter Burke lost their matches and Paul McKnight had to withdraw during the match due to an injury. The Metro panel has put in big effort this year and many thanks to Gerry, John and all the squad. Roll on 2016.
The Best Cup team took on Glen O’ the Downs. Team manager Gerry Browner picked a strong team and he needed to playing three matches away from home. Maurice Bracken & Conor Fleetwood won 2 up, Paul Cahill & Tom O’Sullivan won 1 up and Nigel Robinson & Heremon O’Farrell won 3&2. A fantastic result.

Up against a very strong opposition our ladies Helge Hayden-Smyth & Amanda Lawless, Mags Smith & Ciara Marmion and Roisin Norris & Monica Smith had it all to do having gone down 3 nil in the first leg of this round. It wasn’t to be as the ladies lost the first two matches and Helge & Amanda were called in
Last out was our Cullen Cup team managed by Mary Hutch and Michael Keating. This first round match was against Old Conna and was held in Greystones. In a tightly contested tie Ray Nolan & Polly O’Reilly went down ( 5&3 ) and Walter Gilbert & Trish Sheil also lost ( 3&2 ). Wins by Shane O’Connor & Lisa Croke ( 4&3 ) and Diarmuid MacGabhann & Emma Hanley ( 5&3 ) meant that the tie came down to the last match. Sean McParland and Betty Barker were giving 9 shots and had to come from 3 down to win 3&1 thanks in no small part to a great put held by Betty on the 16th and a brilliant approach shot to three feet by Sean on the 17th.
Tuesday May 12th
Yesterday the Irish mixed foursomes teed it up against Edmonstown in the 3rd round of the competition. A home win by Eddie Lonergan and Mary O’Neill set it up for a grandstand finish. Monday 23rd March 2015
Well done to the Greystones Ladies’ team who won their first round match in the Minor Cup yesterday ( 23.3.2015). With three matches away and two at home it was always going to be a big ask against a strong club like Grange but wins for Amanda Lawless and Lisa Croke away and for Frances Twomey in Greystones took the team through to the next round. Congratulations to Marguerite and all the team.
