Sunday 31st May
A disappointing day for our Barton Cup team who had home advantage against Castle in the third round of this competition. In very windy conditions Collie Dunne & Jack Joyce won 3&1 at home while Jason Hackman and Ray McDonald lost on the 18th in Castle. Losses at home for Martin Nolan & Shay Hoey ( 3&1 ) and Ben Malone & Con Thomas ( 3&2) followed. Shane O’Connor & Trevor Philips were 1 up on the 18th away from home when they were called in. Many thanks on behalf of the club to all those who have put so much effort in over the past months in this and the Fitzgibbon campaigns. Thanks to Barry O’Leary and Pete Murray who managed the Barton Cup team.
Our ladies’ Challenge Cup team traveled to Woodbrook today to play Westmonstown in the third round of their All-Ireland title defense. Our ladies came up against a very strong team and on the day losses for Elaine Smith, Aishling Marmion, Celine Joyce and Barbara Fury ended the dream of two in a row. Noelle Ahern’s match was called in. Congratulations to all involved in this campaign.
Saturday 30th May
Our Under 15 Boys’ team traveled to Woodenbridge in their third match of the round robin stage of the competition. In very cold conditions the Woodenbridge team came out best with a 3:2 victory on this occasion. Stephen Corry and Christopher Lawless both won 4&3. Jake Brodeur, Rory Reid and Ben Hynes all lost out on the day against strong players. Hopefully the team will progress to the knock out stages notwithstanding this result.
